IGF-1 LR3 (Long R3 IGF-1) is a laboratory-modified form of insulin-like growth factor-1 with an extended amino acid chain that reduces its binding affinity to IGF-binding proteins. This modification allows it to remain active in circulation for a longer period—approximately 20–30 hours compared to the short half-life of natural IGF-1.
Because of its prolonged activity, IGF-1 LR3 is widely studied in experimental biology for its effects on:
- Skeletal muscle growth and repair
- Cellular proliferation and regeneration
- Nutrient uptake in muscle cells
- Recovery from tissue damage
